The Naval Academy was an officer training school established by the former Navy and moved from Tsukiji, Tokyo to Etajima in 1888, where it continued to train officers until the end of the war. After the war, the school was confiscated by the occupying forces and became a school of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. The school is open to the public for tours, and includes the beautiful red-brick "Officers' Candidate School (former Cadet Hall)" and the "Main Auditorium," one of the largest buildings in the prefecture, based on Western architecture. Both are outstanding works of art that combine dignity and elegance.
