Fudoin Temple is the only remaining temple structure in the suburbs of Hiroshima City that miraculously survived the war and is still in existence, and the Kondo (main hall) is the only national treasure in Hiroshima City. The Kondo was originally the Kashakuji Butsuden (Buddhist hall) built by the warring feudal lord Ouchi in Yamaguchi, and was moved to its current location by Ankokuji Keiki during the Tensho period (1592-1591). It was the largest Zen Buddhist temple during the medieval period, and its structural details are typical of the Zen style. The interior, consisting of the main sanctuary and worship space, is reminiscent of the lost Gozan Buddhist temple of the medieval period.
The tower gate and bell tower are also historic buildings built in the Muromachi period (1336-1573).
