Sanrakuso (former residence of the Hozawa family) is a townhouse built in the Meiji period (1868-1912) and is one of the representative buildings in the townscape of Tojo. When it was first built, it was a kimono fabric merchant and a soy sauce brewer, but after the war it was converted to an inn, and for the next 60 years it was known as the "Sanrakuso" inn. The building was donated to Shobara City, and today it serves as a facility that conveys the history and cluture of Tojo. In addition to the main building, a detached house, storehouse, gate, and walls are all still in existence, and the building has many highlights such as expensive timber, which is difficult to obtain today, and exquisite craftsmanship such as the decorative lintels.
