The building is known worldwide as a symbol of the A-bombed city of Hiroshima. Before the atomic bombing, the building was known as the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall and served as a venue for various events. The layout of the building facing the river and the geometric patterns on the exterior walls, which are thought to have been influenced by the Vienna Secession, show the avant-garde design of the time, which was different from European historicist architecture, and the building is an outstanding piece of architecture.
