It is the remains of a munitions factory, which was built as a warehouse for storing military uniforms and other items, and retains the appearance of the former military city of Hiroshima. It is a work that lies between the historicist architecture of the Meiji period and the modernist architecture of the Showa period, and as a whole, it has a simple form that prioritizes function with a few decorative touches.
Although the exterior is brick, the actual structure is an unusual combination of brick and reinforced concrete, making it one of the oldest and most valuable concrete buildings in Japan.
Furthermore, there are few places in the country where a former munitions factory of this scale remains, making it of great historical value.
