This high school building stands just north of Hiroshima Castle. The "Creative Expression Course," an art course, has been established, and the school has a zone lined with galleries and art classrooms.
The school is gently connected to its surroundings by a large first-floor pilotis that extends all the way to the top floor of the building on the south side, and by the greenery and sky reflected in the curtain wall on the south side facing Hiroshima Castle.
Based on the concept that students arriving at school will disperse from their "residence (regular classrooms)" on the top floor to "work (special classrooms)" on the lower floors, an escalator from the ground level to the top floor has been installed so that students can safely and without disruption move to their "residence" on the top floor during the short time they are at school.
