Along with the former naval academy on Etajima, it is one of the representative brick buildings in the prefecture. The main part of the building is brick, but the central part is made of granite stone, and the stone pillars are particularly well crafted and impressive. Furthermore, if you look at the tips of the pillars, you will see Japanese cherry blossoms. The entrance to the building was built on both the street side and the sea side to allow for access from both land and sea, another characteristic of naval buildings.
The building is currently used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, and the exterior of the building can be viewed only on Sundays at certain times.
