In Onomichi, a port town since long ago, merchant families often built villas on higher ground than their main residences, and this is a representative example of such a building. The building's unique and powerful appearance, which is created by the deep shadows of nankyo clapboards, and the meticulous craftsmanship that remains in various parts of the building, are all appealing, and show a part of Onomichi's excellent wooden architecture culture.
