Opened in 1992, this museum is dedicated to meteorology and science. Originally built in 1934 as the Hiroshima Prefectural Weather Station, the building was later renamed the Hiroshima District Meteorological Observatory before being bombed in 1945. The building retains much of its original form, both inside and out, and is representative of early reinforced concrete construction in the city, reflecting the latest designs of the time, making it a valuable building for understanding the design techniques of that period. The building still retains its exterior walls, which were exposed to the blast of the atomic bomb, as well as glass fragments stuck in the interior walls and scars from the bombing.
