Kie on Osakikamijima is a town that developed after the modern era as a port for waiting for the tide, and is known to have had flourishing geisha district and shipbuilding industry. Many wooden buildings from the Taisho and Showa periods still remain, and were used as filming locations for the movie "Tokyo Kazoku" (Tokyo Family). The area is particularly unique in its concentration of multi-story wooden buildings with three or more floors, which cannot be reproduced today.
