Located in Hijiyama Park in Hiroshima City, this is the staff housing of the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF), where residents still reside. Although it is now a Japan-U.S. joint research institute, it was originally called ABCC, an American research institute that investigated the effects of radiation on the human body. As a result, the rooms are of American specifications in size and furnishings.
Designed by renowned architect Kunio Maekawa, the building is based on a style known as Modernism, which emphasizes functionality and rationality without decoration.
