This elementary school building is located in the center of Hiroshima City. When the building was reconstructed, a civic exchange plaza and other functions were added, making it an unusual mixed-use facility. In order to preserve a portion of the old school building, which was exposed to the atomic bombing, the buildings were placed across from the preserved school building and connected by a bridge at the fourth floor. The plan is highly dense and typical of the city center, with a municipal bicycle parking lot in the basement, an indoor sports field on the third floor of the school building, and a pool above that.
