The Onomichi City Museum of Art opened in 1980 as a result of a grassroots citizens' movement to build an art museum. The current building was reborn in 2003, after expansion and renovation work designed and supervised by architect Tadao Ando. The museum's collection includes works by artists associated with the museum, such as Wasaku Kobayashi and Najinshi Moritani. The museum also holds attractive, mainly self-produced exhibitions.
