Chairman's Greeting
The G7 Summit will be held in the City of Hiroshima from May 19 to 21, 2023.
I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to the leaders from around the world visiting Hiroshima and everyone involved in the G7 Summit.
Hiroshima experienced the complete devastation caused by the first atomic bomb in human history. It also made a remarkable recovery from the devastation. This fact has made Hiroshima carry two messages: horror of war and prosperity through peace. In the current severe international environment, it is extremely meaningful for global political leaders to discuss the future of the world here in Hiroshima. Taking this opportunity, we would like to disseminate to the world the two messages that Hiroshima has carried on.
Meanwhile, the G7 Hiroshima Summit will attract much attention of the people around the world, making it a perfect opportunity to spread the charms of Hiroshima to the world.
Through the Hiroshima Summit, we would like to convey to the world a various attractions of Hiroshima, including its industries, nature, food, and culture, while welcoming visitors with its unique hospitality. We hope that these efforts will increase the number of fans of Hiroshima not only in Japan but also around the world, who will chose Hiroshima as tourism destination and business partner.
To that end, I would like the public and private sectors to work together to ensure the success of the Hiroshima Summit. At the same time, I hope that not only the citizens of the City of Hiroshima but also all the residents in Hiroshima Prefecture will cooperate in building up excitement for the Summit. We appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation.
YUZAKI Hidehiko, Chairman of the Citizens Council for the Hiroshima Summit,
Governor of Hiroshima Prefecture
Vice Chairman's Greeting
In May 2023, the G7 Summit will be held in the City of Hiroshima. This means that many people, including leaders and government officials of the countries steering the world’s politics and economy, as well as domestic and foreign media, will visit Hiroshima, an international city of peace and culture.
The City of Hiroshima has strived for a long time to host a G7 Summit. This time, the City will finally host the G7 Summit, following the three Summits held in Japan: Okinawa in 2000; Lake Toya, Hokkaido in 2008; and Ise-Shima, Mie Prefecture in 2016. Even if another summit is held in Hiroshima in the future, it will be one hundred or even hundreds of years away.
Since we have been given such a valuable opportunity, I would like to make use of this rare event to disseminate from Hiroshima to the world the spirit of Hiroshima, which is the wish for a peaceful world without nuclear weapons, and the wide variety of charms of Hiroshima.
In order to realize this, it is necessary for residents of the City of Hiroshima and Hiroshima Prefecture to come together as one to think about what they can do for the G7 Hiroshima Summit and join forces in making thorough preparations.
Looking ahead to the future of world peace and the development of Hiroshima, we would like to work together with all the residents of the City of Hiroshima and Hiroshima Prefecture to make the G7 Hiroshima Summit a success. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
MATSUI Kazumi, Vice Chairman of the Citizens Council for the Hiroshima Summit,
Mayor of the City of Hiroshima
It has been decided that a G7 Summit will be held in the City of Hiroshima as a result of successful public and private efforts to attract the event to the City.
With the international situation becoming tense, the Hiroshima Summit will not only be a valuable opportunity to globally send out a powerful message of peace but also a welcome chance to let the world know about Hiroshima's charms.
I believe that tourism-related business operators, who have been greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, have great expectations for the favorable economic effects of the G7 Summit and the increase in inbound tourists after the Summit.
To ensure such good effects, the public and private sectors in Hiroshima must work together to support the smooth and safe operation of the G7 Summit. I would also like everyone living in the City of Hiroshima and Hiroshima Prefecture as well as all business operators to welcome those who will come to Hiroshima on the occasion of the Hiroshima Summit.
We appreciate your kind understanding and cooperation for the success of the Hiroshima Summit.
IKEDA Koji, Vice Chairman of the Citizens Council for the Hiroshima Summit,
Chair of Hiroshima Chamber of Commerce and Industry
