Hiroshima prefecture is located almost in the center of Seto Inland sea Maritime Transportation Routes. Life and Culture in this region today developed under the various influences of new cultures from the Asian continent as well as from kitakyushu and the Kinki(Osaka area) districts of Japan through these inland sea routes. Local culture also came from the north: from the Sanin district and from the Tatara(ironmanufacturing) area in the Chugoku mountains. The purpose of this Museum is to collect, study, reserach and preserve the many historical, archaeological and folk materials that illustrate the cultural development of this region. These materials represent the rich history of the Hiroshima prefecture.
Through these exhibitions, we can gain a clear image of the way of life in ancient times in this area.
